Designed for military applications, but now commercially available, OPENSEA Edge is designed as a modular edge computing module that supports the perception of autonomous underwater robots based on Greensea’s OPENSEA open architecture software platform and marine robots. Advance engineering to the next generation.
Greensea has launched its latest product, which the company promises will bring true autonomy to marine robotics.
Based on Greensea’s open architecture platform OPENSEA, OPENSEA Edge offers next-level operator capabilities. OPENSEA provides software capabilities for navigation, control, autonomy, perception, and long-range communication, while OPENSEA Edge provides a modular, hardware-agnostic processing platform that transforms traditional ROVs into autonomous, AI, and Convert to one with vehicle awareness, and tetherless. – horizon, communication and control. Essentially, it is a convenient add-on package that provides edge processing and recognition system integration integrated into a conventional ROV.
“We founded Greensea to develop technology that improves the working relationship between operators and vehicles,” said Ben Kinnaman, Founder and CEO of Greensea. OPENSEA Edge provides an edge processing solution for marine vehicles with control, autonomy, awareness and communications from the subsea to beyond the horizon.OPENSEA Edge enables Greensea to reside and extend the reach of subsea robots. is leading the way.”
OPENSEA Edge uses parallel NVIDIA processors to process sonar and video recognition feeds, providing autonomy, communication, and task management for robots. The platform puts massive processing power at the edge of the robot, where it can directly process sensor data and make decisions about the vehicle. OPENSEA’s Safe C2 software package for low-bandwidth and high-latency communication links provides a bottom-to-horizon communication solution for operators monitoring robots. OPENSEA’s open architecture framework and available processing space allows developers to install their own autonomy and perception processing software, including his AI/ML libraries.
Through collaboration with other subsea technology leaders, OPENSEA Edge was able to provide a complete solution. One example is his Greensea collaboration with Seebyte, an expert in Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) technology. ATR systems use fast machine learning techniques to detect and classify targets from forward looking sonar data. Equipped with OPENSEA Edge, his ROV can now identify targets based on an extensive and growing internal library of past experience.
